The Tzotzil Maya people form the predominant indigenous community in Tenejapa. They have a deep-rooted cultural heritage and maintain traditional customs and practices. Coffee production is an important economic activity in Tenejapa. The high altitude, favorable climate, and volcanic soils contribute to the production of specialty coffee.
